GSAFE Seeks Health Curriculum Intern

Health Curriculum Intern (start date February 2013)

GSAFE is seeking an intern who has an interest in working with educators to create a curriculum that will help health class be more inclusive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning people and issues.

The Health Curriculum Intern will work with the Manager of GSA Outreach to identify 3-5 health teachers in Wisconsin who have an interest in creating a sample curriculum or guidelines for other health teachers on how to make health and human growth & development curricula more inclusive of LGBTQ people and issues.  The curriculum will include materials on HIV transmission and information relevant to young men who have sex with men (YMSM), among whom there is still a higher prevalence of HIV/AIDS.

Responsibilities of the Health Curriculum Intern will include:

  • Reaching out to GSA advisors and health teachers already connected to GSAFE to invite them to participate
  • Seek feedback from current high school students about the health curricula that currently exist and what they think is missing
  • Convene health teachers in person or by conference call to begin gathering information for curricula
  • Work with students and educators to develop curriculum and seek feedback on it

Hours for the internship are flexible, and much of the work can be done from home or from outside the GSAFE office.  Access to a car is not required for this internship.

For more information about this internship, email Tim Michael at tim@gsafewi.org or call the GSAFE office at (608)661-4141.
