Unity Summit Draws 500

The Wisconsin Room at the UW-Milwaukee Student Union was bursting at the seams as nearly 500 youth and adult advocates came together for GSAFE’s annual Youth Unity Summit on Friday, December 8th.  This was GSAFE’s largest student event ever, and brought together students from over 25 schools in and around southeastern Wisconsin.

Students selected several workshops – many of them student led – to attend throughout the day including Activism in Social Media, How to Run an Inclusive GSA, Know Your Rights!, Consent Culture, School Advocacy, Trans Femmes, Arts and Activsm, the Prison Industrial Complex, Intersectionality and Allyship, Race in the LGBT Community, How to Love Yourself, and more.

Special guests included representatives from ACLU Wisconsin, Black and Pink Milwaukee, Milwaukee Public Schools, PATCH Teen Educators, and Rethinking Schools.

Special thanks to our event sponsors The Brighter Futures Initiative and Group Health Cooperative Community Care Department. You helped make this event possible for so many young people!
