GSAFE is scheduling Safe Zone trainings for the remainder of your school year – have you signed up for yours yet?
Thanks to funding from the Department of Public Instruction, the Gay Straight Alliance for Safe Schools is able to offer a free training for your school staff on how to create a safer and more welcoming environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. Trainings will include:
- An overview of the experiences of LGBTQ youth in Wisconsin’s schools
- Ways to incorporate LGBTQ issues, people, and events into your curricula
- Strategies for addressing and preventing anti-LGBTQ language and behavior
- An opportunity to practice responding to “that’s so gay” and questions that come up around these issues
Ideally, we request at least three hours for a Safe Zone training, but may be able to accommodate more or less time as needed. Trainings are scheduled on a first come, first served basis, so schedule one soon!
If you are interested in getting a training scheduled in your building or for your district, contact Brian Juchems at (608)661-4141 or brianj@gsafewi.org.
